Julie, Architecture is the design of buildings. Shanghai has many beautiful examples of architecture, both old and new. Many of the older homes outside Shanghai (west towards Kunshan, and south towards Hangzhou - farms, I believe) have a common design, with verandas (large, covered 2nd floor balconies,) decorated rooflines, and such, that I like a whole lot.
Anyway, that's what architecture is.
