man on the mountain :: the last 500 meters to the top of tianmu mountain aren't easy, especially in early march when the rocky steps are covered in snow ... and sometimes bushes bogged down by ice-covered branches. perhaps that's why the old man who was living alone in an old weather station at the summit was so surprised to see me. i don't think he gets many visitors up there, so we hung out for a while ... and bonded. say cheese! :: the recently built daning-lingshi park is just a short walk from shanghai university's yan chang lu campus ... but it makes you feel like you've been transported back to the 1950s when everthing is neat-o and swell (well, maybe not in china). like most chinese parks, there is nothing natural about this place at all. it's like walking inside the set of the truman show.
